Wang Fengqin
Wang Fengqin is the proud mother of Chinese professional tennis player, Zhang Shuai -who is currently participating at the China Open.
Wang Fengqin’s daughter is one of only a few Chinese tennis players to have reached the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament.
She began playing tennis at age 6 when her parents took her to local club. By age 12, she started working with Chinese Tennis Association.
Since then, both her parent have been a major source of support for the player, after all she comes from an athletic family.
Wang Fengqin and husband Zhang Zhuqiang understand all about being committed to a sport. He is a former pro soccer player while Wang Fengqin is an ex-basketballer.
Their daughter turned professional in 2003. After a full year on the ITF Women’s circuit, Zhang finished 2004 with a year-end ranking of 901st.
She has enjoyed considerable success in singles on ITF tournaments. However, she had won only two main-draw tournaments on the WTA Tour. She won her first WTA singles title at the 2013 Guangzhou International Women’s Open as a wild card entrant.
She achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No. 23 in 2016. That year she won her first singles match in a Grand Slam tournament at the 2016 Australian Open. At the time Zhang had lost all 14 of her main-draw Grand Slam matches up to that point.
Zhang has won 24 singles titles and 17 titles in doubles.
Zhang Shuai shares her victories with her family, she and parents Wang Fengqin and Zhang Zhuqiang are often pictured together. Is safe to say they are her biggest fans.
