April Austin
April Austin is the lovely wife of retired football player turned coach, Teryl Austin, who until recently served as the Bengals defensive coordinator.
April’s husband has been fired from the Bengals following another embarrassing defensive performance. Over the weekend Teryl’s former team, became the first team in Super Bowl Era to allow more than 500 yards in three straight games. This was his first and last season with the Bengals.
Before Cincinnati, Teryl spent the previous four seasons as defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions. Prior to his time in Detroit, Austin served as a defensive backs coach for a combined 10 years with three NFL teams, Seattle, Arizona and Baltimore.
Born March 3, 1965; the Sharon, Pennsylvania native –was a three-year starter and four-year letterman at safety for the University of Pittsburgh, from 1983-87. He earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from Pittsburgh in 1988 and went on to play for the Montreal Machine of the World League of American Football in 1991 after attending training camps with the Washington Redskins and Hamilton Tiger-Cats (CFL). He attended Sharon (Pa.) High School.
Went to training camp with the Washington Redskins and Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League before playing the 1991 season for the Montreal Machine of the World League of American Football.
He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Penn State in 1991, then coached the defensive backs at Wake Forest (1993-95), Syracuse (1996-98) and Michigan (1999-2002).
He is happily married to April Austin with whom he shares five children.
Together they are the proud parents of three sons Tyler, Trey and Torin; and two daughters, Alexa and Alivia. The couple’s daughter Alexa goes to Saint Joseph’s University.
Not much more is known about the supportive coach’s wife and mother of five. Unlike her husband, is safe to say April Austin enjoys her privacy.
