Wanda Williams
Wanda Williams is the lovely wife of Roy Allen Williams, also known as the head basketball coach at The University of North Carolina.
Wanda and her husband have been married for a long time, the two exchanged vows over four decades ago. She is certainly her husband’s biggest fan and supporter.
In his 15 years at the helm of the Jayhawks Williams compiled an overall 418-101 record, averaging 27.8 wins per years. He led Kansas to nine regular-season conference championships and four Final Four appearances, including two national championship games. He returned to North Carolina as head coach in 2003, the rest is history.
Following the 2007 season, Williams was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Her husband’s long-standing partnership with UNC has led to ACC championships, national championships and countless wins. Needless to say, he and his entire family have deep bonds with the institution.
Take for instance his wife, Wanda Williams, she is a former student at UNC-Chapel Hill and it was during that time that she met Roy. The pair both graduated in 1972 and were married shortly after, in 1973 to be exact.
She was by his side way before he became a legendary coach and together, the couple has been through ups and downs, including health issues.
Aside from being a loving and supportive wife for decades, she has also been in charged of raising the couple’s two children. Wanda Williams and her husband are the parents of son, Scott and daughter Kimberly.
The couple’s daughter, Kimberly holds a a bachelor’s degree in English from yep, you guessed it, North Carolina. Kimberly Williams worked at Chapel Hill as a teacher. She also taught dance at Jamie Masters School of Dance.
Scot Williams, the couple’s first child, played for the Tar Heels and served as the squad’s point guard during the 1997-98 and 1998-99 season.
Wanda along with her husband, serve as honorary co-chairs of a $10 million campaign to endow the Carolina Covenant, an initiative at North Carolina that allows low-income students to attend the University debt-free.
In addition to the Covenant, the Williams family also hosts an annual Coaches vs. Cancer breakfast. Over the years, the event has raised more than $1.3 million and also includes the autographed basketball program, which has contributed more than $650,000 to local charities.
Wanda Williams is also the proud grandmother to seven-year-old Aiden and six-year-old Court –who are the children of Scot Williams and his wife, Katie.
