The Nets’ head coach was born Kenneth Neil Atkinson on June 2, 1967. He’s originally from Huntington, NY. Laura’s hubby is a former standout collegiate player at the University of Richmond and was also an All-CAA First Team selection as a junior and senior (1989-90).
Mr. Atkinson helped the Spiders to a Sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 1988 and went on to play professionally in Italy, France, Germany, and Spain from 1991 to 2004. Laura’s hubby spent three years as director of player development/assistant coach for Paris Basket Racing Club in France (2004-06) prior to starting his NBA coaching career.
Laura’s hubby spent the 2007-08 campaign serving as the director of player development for the Houston Rockets, and later joined the New York Knicks as an assistant, helping the team reach the playoffs on his final two seasons.
Mr. Atkinson joined the Atlanta Hawks coaching staff in 2012, and it was announced on April 2016 that he would take the head coach job with the Brooklyn Nets, becoming the 21st head coach in Nets NBA history on April 17, 2016.
Well, that’s enough about Kenny, let’s talk about Laura!
Mrs. Atkinson is surely a very supportive wife: she has certainly had to put with all the craziness since her hubby has coached all over the world! Above all that, she’s also a mother of two: Laura and the Nets’ head coach have two children together, which are a son named Anthony and his sister Annika.
The NBA wife seems to enjoy having a low profile. She isn’t active on social media, so it’s hard to find anything about her out there, other than the fact that she’s very supportive of Mr. Atkinson. Laura and her kids were photographed during a press conference in May 2016 as her hubby’s introduction to the Nets’ new head coach job at the Nets HHS Training Center.
