Stacy Hornacek is the pretty wife of 29-years of former Phoenix Suns coach Jeff Hornacek, who’s currently the head coach of the New York Knicks. They have three kids: Ryan, Tyler, and Abby.
While attending Iowa State University, Jeffrey John Hornacek played in the shooting guard position. Stacy’s hubby was selected by the Phoenix Suns 46th overall in the second round of the 1986 NBA Draft. Coach Hornacek played with Phoenix until 1992, when he signed with the Philadelphia Sixers, and two years later he joined the Utah Jazz, but retired after the 1999-2000 season.
Jeff Hornacek started his coaching career as a special assistant coach for the Jazz, who named him assistant coach in 2011. The Phoenix Suns named him their head coach on May 28, 2013, but now he’s the head coach of the New York Knicks after being hired on May 19, 2016.
Mr. and Mrs. Hornacek met when they were students at Iowa State. The first time he called to ask her out, Stacy turned him down because she had plans. She refused to break them even though Jeff tried to convince her to do so. She returned from lunch to her dorm room the next day to find him sitting patiently in the hall in front of her doorway. He talked her into going out with him that night. Stacy says “he’s very charming in a really dorky way, which I still love”.
The Hornacek kids are all grown now. Ryan, 27, is married and works for Google in Chicago. Tyler, 26, is an account executive for a division of FoxSports in Los Angeles. Abby, 22, is an up-and-coming sportscaster who recently accepted a full-time job hosting a show for 120 Sports in Chicago. It is said that Coach Hornacek’s glam daughter steals his spotlight because of her beauty. This feature turned her the 2014 Miss Arizona USA third runner-up!
Stacy Lynn Hornacek (nee. Nelson) was born on February 15, 1963. She used to go to the gym with Jeff, and he used to have her rebound the ***** he’d shoot for practice. When noticing how her hubby would flick his wrist after a shot, Stacy Hornacek suggested that he point his first finger towards the basket more. This suggestion led to a significant improvement in his accuracy along with perfect spin after every shot!
There are other interesting stories about them: when the couple first met, Jeff didn’t tell Stacy he was a basketball player until two months had gone by. Mrs. Hornacek says her hubby never gets mad and that she sometimes wishes he would. There’s also a short anecdote about the time Jeff baked Stacy a red velvet cake. It is said that her mom used to make her a red velvet cake every birthday, so Jeff gave it a try. When asked how the cake tasted, Stacy said it “tasted like a brick”!
