We got you some details of Doug McDermott’s life and career before meeting his mother:
Douglas Richard McDermott was born on January 3, 1992. He’s originally from Grand Forks, North Dakota. His parents are Theresa and Greg McDermott, a college basketball coach and the current coach at Creighton University, the one Doug attended and where he used to play, being coached by his father during all of his four years of college.
The Thunder’s small forward was named to the United States team in the 2011 FIBA Under-19 World Championship, led the nation in scoring in 2013-14, and became a three-time consensus first-team All-American from 2012 to 2014. McDermott scored the fifth-most points in men’s basketball history of NCAA Division I (3,150 points). Doug was the consensus national player of the year in 2014 during his senior year.
Mrs. McDermott’s life is surrounded by basketball, isn’t it? Her hubby was a fourth-team all-state center for Cascade High School in 1983 and would enter the IHSAA Hall of Fame in 2015 because of his playing skills as a prep. The couple met while Greg at the University of Northern Iowa, where he played basketball, and got engaged during their senior year.
The McDermotts have three children together: two sons, Nick and Dough, and a daughter, Sydney. Theresa McDermott is a breast cancer survivor. She was first diagnosed when Sydney was five-years-old, in 2006. The lovely lady and her hubby shared their emotional ride with cancer in 2013 and they have visited breast cancer patients at Methodist Hospital.
Theresa’s hubby revealed during a press conference in 2010 that his family has been a rock for him. He also thanked her for being always right beside him after everything they have been together, following each move that Greg has made and supporting him in everything he has asked her to do during his coaching career.
All this is a proof of their true love, they’re blessed to have each other and we’re happy that they keep demonstrating how supportive they are to the whole family. Any thoughts about the McDermotts? Leave them in the comments box below!
