Zinedine Yazid Zidane, nicknamed “Zizou”, is not only well known as a player or a manager, but also because of his famous head butt that may have cost the French the 2006 World Cup! Zidane was born on June 23, 1972. He’s originally from Marseille, France, and this elite playmaker was named the best European soccer player of the past 50 years in the UEFA Golden Jubilee Poll.
The Real Madrid manager fell for a gorgeous Spanish lady, Veronique Fernandez-Lentisco, who became his wife on May 28, 1994. They met while Zidane was playing for Cannes in the 1988-89 season. The couple has four sons together: Enzo Alan, born March 24, 1995; Luca Zinedine, born May 13, 1998; Theo, born May 18, 2002, and Elyaz, born December 26, 2005.
Even though the marriage’s sons go by Zidane Fernandez as their surnames, their gifted son Enzo has opted to go by Enzo Fernandez as he establishes his soccer career, just to lose some attention from his father’s famous name.
Mrs. Zidane discovered another way to collaborate with soccer: in a visit she and her hubby made to Veronique’s parents, in Rodez, Aveyron, Zinedine was approached by the owners of Rodez Aveyron FC to invest in the club, which is originally from the south west of France. The Real Madrid manager agreed to help without doubting, expressing he never forgets his roots. Zidane considers the Rodez Aveyron FC as family and makes him feel at home.
